History or Herstory? The Circus Spectaculum must be female, since it is run by woman. This is Herstory. In the summer 2005, 10 Circus Spectaculum posters were put up around Christiania. It said: World class Spectacular Circus Spectacle. Magic, fire dance, folk music, trapeze, buffoons and the amazing flying canonking.

The canonking never showed up and the folk musicians had hangovers. But regardless the magic arose. A girl found her favourite underground poet, a dog caught a crow in the air, food not bomb made magical food, the trapeze artists swung beautiful in the air, while the sun were setting behind the church tower, a band was formed, the people were enchanted and they danced all night. In 2006 the event grew 1 day bigger. We had tons of great musicians ready to play, clowns and artists passing by, standing in line to make their show, workshops for the kids to play.

This is the third annual Circus Spectaculum. THIS YEAR Circus Spectaculum is proud to present international circus groups, puppeteers, clowns and freakshows. Enjoy the Spectaculum experience bigger and better.

The essence of THIS YEARs Circus Spectaculum is to create a Spectacle; where the old circus traditions meets current fresh thoughts about art and performance, where the audience is not merely the spectator but a part of the show.

As when the kings and queens had their troubadours, Chester’s, jokers and jugglers, we go back on the streets, and remind the queens citizens of this culture which still exists…

The machinery of Circus Spectaculum runs on magic! It is in our opinion that all folks, young and old, big and small, serious or foolish - wants to believe in magic. This is how it all started and why it won’t stop.

It is the unexpected that make us believe in magic and illusions. The excitement of waiting for the show to begin and the presence of a human, who is on stage to astonish or touch or reach out with an expression or an opinion to the people in the audience; it opens us up and makes us let go of the mind for a while, and it makes life a little more magical. The world needs magic!
